Master in Islamic Banking

Introduction


The objective of this program is to provide the banking sector with qualified administrative personnel capable of developing and modernizing Islamic financial and banking work. It is aimed at those wishing to develop the skills and scientific and practical capabilities in the field of Islamic banking services.

Program Details


The Islamic Banking Master Program focuses on the following rules:
a. The required period for preparing the aforementioned degree (Islamic banking Master) is between 18-24 months.
b. The study is conducted in the Master program according to the teaching plan shown below, and the courses for each semester are determined by a decision of the Board of Academic and Students’ Affairs.
c. The study in this grade shall be in Arabic and the courses taught in a foreign language will be determined at the beginning of each academic year by the Board of Academic and Students’ Affairs.
d. Students must achieve not less than 85% of course’s attendance hours percentage to be allowed to apply for the examination of such a course; and the Board of Academic and Students’ Affairs has the right, when necessary, to give permission for a student who attend about 75% only.
e. The final mark for each course (except the project) consists of two parts, one for the practical part and one for the exam. The Board of Academic and Students’ Affairs determines the percentage of each part of the course mark (usually 50% for each part).
f. The student is considered passed in the course if his/her final mark is not less than 60% of the total grade of this course.
g. The Master's student will benefit from a complementary assessment at the end of the first academic year to submit the courses’ exams in which he/she failed, the date of these exams will be determined by a decision of the Dean after announcing results of examinations of all courses.
h. The Vice Dean shall prepare a memorandum on the status of the students who accomplished the complementary examinations at an average of not less than 60% but received a mark of between 40% and 60% in two courses at the most; and the memo will be presented to the Board of Academic and Students’ Affairs to undertake additional assignment, then recommend the results of these assignments to the Administrative Board to take decision on students’ conditions.
i. The student will pass to the second year if he/she succeeds in all courses of the two semesters in the first year according to the previous provisions.
j. The student must register on the graduation project within a maximum period of one month from the date of issuance of the decision of success in all courses. The degree due for the project consists of the following parts:
- 70% for the jury.
- 30% for the supervisor.
k. The student will pass the project if he/she obtains a degree not less than 60% of the final mark of the project.
l. A student who commits cheating in an exam is punished by the final dismissal of the Master.
m. A student who did not meet the pass requirements of all courses will be dismissed.

Admission Conditions


    A degree in the following disciplines (Economics and Commerce, Sharia and Islamic Studies, Management Sciences, Law) from universities or higher institutes in the Syrian Arab Republic or any scientific degree approved by the Academic and Students’ Affairs Board.
    To succeed in the English language test according to the rules set by the Administrative Board.
    A documented file showing applicant’s biography and the work he/she has done.
    To be interviewed by the admissions committee.
    To pay the tuition fees determined by the Administrative Board.

•    Fiqeh of Transactions (excluding graduates of Faculties of Sharia and Islamic and Legal Studies).
